Where Should I Place My Aquarium?

There are many different styles and shapes of aquarium available these days. What should influence your final decision will be the amount of room you have in your home.

You still want to sit on your sofa and be able to see your television. Plus you don’t want to keep walking into or tripping over your tank.

An aquarium should be placed away from direct sunlight, so nowhere near a window or this will affect the temperature of the water and promote the growth of algae ( a nasty green slime that covers all the surfaces in your aquarium ).

Also your aquarium must be positioned away from a radiator as this will also affect the temperature of the water.

The tank should also be placed in a focal position such as the living room but not in a position where it will be knocked or banged, by a door for example as this will cause stress for the fish! ( yes fish get stressed but more about that later ).

The most important thing to remember when deciding where to place your aquarium is that water is very, very heavy. Stable aquarium stands are readily available and affordable. Never place a tank on an unstable surface such as a wobbly table or a shelf.

Also pay attention to the strength of the floor you are placing the tank on. It has been known for the weight of an aquarium to make a floor collapse!
