Live Plants For Your AquariumIt is fine to have a few plastic, artificial plants in your aquarium but if you are serious about creating a healthy natural environment for your fish you should consider planting some live plants in your tank. The majority of aquatic retailers offer a variety of coldwater and tropical plants. There are many different types of aquatic plants available and just like the plants in your garden some are easier to grow than others. There are many advantages of having live plants in your fish tank. Plants use up carbon dioxide in the water and produce oxygen, which is great for the fish as they breath the oxygen within the water. Plants also feed on the harmful chemicals in your aquarium and therefore act as natural filters. Plants provide a natural shelter for your fish to hide in and look great when properly cared for and maintained. Like garden plants your aquatic plants will need looking after. They must be planted in deep gravel and will need lots of light. Special light tubes are available to promote the growth of aquatic plants. You can also buy liquid plant food to add to your water but never use outdoor gardening products as they will harm if not kill your fish. One major benefit with aquatic plants compared to garden plants is that you won’t have to water them!
